Integral Education

An eight-year-old running in the snow. Welcome to The Circle School’s Introduction to Integral Education. This tour briefly explores historical educational movements in America, including both traditional and modern education; the principles of integral education; and their practice at The Circle School.

For half a millennium, the Western world has trended towards increasing realization of individual autonomy and self-determination, and decreasing emphasis on social conformity and autocratic authority. Education and its institutions, though, have not kept pace, despite increasing acceptance of “progressive” or “modern” principles and practices in the classroom.

Integral education is the natural successor to modern education, and is rooted in a belief in the natural impulse to healthy growth. The Circle School is an example and demonstration of this new movement in education.
